OnlyOffice, the popular free open-source office suite, released new 9.0 version for its offline use desktop editors hours ago.

It also added brand-new Diagram Viewer allows to open and view Microsoft Visio diagrams (.vsdx), and add new file formats support, including Markdown files (.md), OpenDocument Graphic files (.odg) created by OpenOffice / LibreOffice Draw, as well as Microsoft Excel Binary Workbook file (.xlsb).

The PDF Editor in the release now supports drag’n’drop re-arranging pages, and Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V shortcut keys to copy and paste PDF pages between different files.

Spreadsheet now has RLT support, RTL and LTR text direction change. And, document gains improved usability for RTL text and enhanced paragraphs with the main RTL direction.

The Desktop Editor 9.0 also enhanced AI support. It now supports extracting text from scanned PDF files using the OCR feature, applying smart formulas and run complex data analysis in spreadsheets, as well as creating new macros based on your prompts and converting VBA macros with a few clicks.

According to the release note, the release also added ability to enable or disable Spelling language detection in Settings, though the option is already available in my case in v8.3.3.

Other change include:

  • Asynchronous calculations in spreadsheets.
  • Print without using system dialog.
  • Add file association dialog in Windows .exe installer.
