The icon theme offers Faenza, Faenza-Ambiance, Faenza-Radiance, Faenza-dark, darker, darkest. You can choose one of them in Gnome shell via Gnome Tweaks.

Install Gnome Tweaks either via sudo apt install gnome-tweaks command or from Software utility (if you don’t have it).

Faenza is one of the most popular Gnome icon theme that provides light, dark, Faenza-Ambiance, and Faenza-Radiance themes to fit with light or dark panels / toolbars.

Since Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid, the icon theme was finally made into official Ubuntu repositories to make it easier to install.

For Ubuntu 16.04, while Ubuntu Software (Gnome Software) does not show applications without appdata (information about software description and screenshot etc.), use Synaptic or apt command:

Open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run command to install Faenza Icons in Ubuntu 16.04:

sudo apt install faenza-icon-theme

Type in password and once it’s properly installed, launch Unity Tweak Tool (available in Ubuntu Software) or other tweak tool for your desktop and apply new icons in Appearance -> Icons.

A repacked version is also available that includes wireless mouse icon and the tiny calendar icon in time & date menu.

Using Faenza icons on your Ubuntu desktop? If you’re a perfectionist, you may already have found that this icon theme set lacks the wireless mouse icon and the tiny calendar icon under time & date menu in Ubuntu 14.04.

Faenza icons is one of the most popular icon theme sets for Gnome. It’s created by Matthieu James and last updated two years ago in 2012. A guy from Ubuntu forum has recently added fixes to the source so that below icons work in Ubuntu 14.04 & higher:

  • the wireless mouse icon
  • the tiny calendar icon under time & date menu

Fix to Faenza icons

No screenshot for the wireless mouse icon because I don’t have one, sorry…

I’ve repack the Faenza Icon 1.3.1 with the fixes into PPA and the .deb package available for download at the link below:

Just click download the package and then double-click to open it with Ubuntu Software Center and finally click install.

Finally apply the theme in Unity Tweak Tool -> Icons and done.

This simple tutorial is going to show you how to install and apply the latest Faenza icon theme in Ubuntu 14.04 while the PPA is not available yet.

It’s pretty easy to install an icon theme on Ubuntu Linux. Because Ubuntu stores icons in /usr/share/icons for global and user’s .icons folder for single use, all you need to do is put your icon theme folder into one of previous location and that’s it.

To install Faenza icons:

1. Download the latest package at Google Code. So far, it is Faenza 1.3.

2. Extract the package and you’ll see Faenza-Radiace, Faenza-Darkest, Faenza-Darker, Faenza-Dark, Faenza-Ambiance and Faenza packages.

3 Unpack all of them and move the result folders to:

  • For single use, move them to .icons folder. Under your home folder, press Ctrl+H to view/hide hidden folders. Create one if .icons is not exist.
  • For global use, move them to /usr/share/icons/ folder. You’ll need to press Alt+F2 and run gksudo nautilus to open file browser with root to do copy and paste things.

To make the installation easy:

Download the Deb package below:

faenza-icon-theme_1.3.1_all.deb

Double-click the package and click Install button in pop-up Ubuntu Software Center will install the theme into /usr/share/icons/.

Apply Faenza Icons:

Open Unity Tweak Tool or Gnome Tweak Tool. The faenza icons should be in the icons list.

This simple tutorial will show you how to install and use Faenza Icons 1.3.1 in Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander while the PPA is not available yet.

As I know, the Faenza icons ppa contains actually the same DEB package for Ubuntu 13.04 Raring, 12.10 Quantal, 12.04 Precise. We can also use the Deb on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy to install this icon set. Here’s how:

1.) Click on below link to download the theme:

faenza-icon-theme_1.3.1_all.deb

2.) Press Ctrl+Alt+T on your keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, run below command to install the Deb:

sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/faenza-icon-theme_1.3.1_all.deb

3.) To apply this theme to your system, install unity-tweak-tool in Ubuntu Software Center. Or run below command in terminal:

sudo apt-get install unity-tweak-tool

Once installed, open it from Unity Dash. You’ll be able to choose Faenza icons under Appearances -> Icons.
