Wine development 1.7.8 was released recently with improvement and many bug fixes. In this release, foobar2000 crashes issue has been fixed.

Install Wine via PPA:
The Wine PPA is ready for Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.04, Ubuntu 12.10, Ubuntu 12.04 and their derivatives.
To get started, press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, run commands below one by one:
sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine1.7
