Vivaldi web browser 2.1 was released today with focus on Quick Commands improvements and various other changes.

Vivaldi 2.1 release highlights:

  • Enable support for AV1
  • Quick Commands improvements including:
    • Notes search
    • UI Zoom and support for command line parameters
    • Open items in a new tab via modifier keys
  • Numerous fixes, Updated translations, and Upgraded Chromium to 70.0.3538.77

  • How to Install Vivaldi 2.1 in Ubuntu:

    The official Ubuntu .DEB packages are available for download at the link below:

    Grab the deb matches your OS, then install it via Ubuntu Software or Gdebi package manager. Or run command in terminal:

    sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/vivaldi-stable_2.1*.deb; sudo apt -f install

    In addition, after installed the .deb package, you can enable Vivaldi apt repository (Softare & Updates -> Other Software) to receive future updates through Software Updater:

    The Vivaldi web browser reached the new stable 1.14 release earlier today.

    Vivaldi 1.14 features:

    • Vertical reader mode for users of Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages.
    • Add Markdown support to Notes
    • Add the ability to customize the order of the Web Panels in the sidebar.
    • Ability to change order of search engines

    For those who have installed a previous release, and enabled the Vivaldi Linux repository, upgrade the browser via Software Updater:

    To manually add the repository, run command to edit the source file:

    gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/vivaldi.list

    When the file opens, un-comment or add (if empty) the following line and save it:

    deb http://repo.vivaldi.com/stable/deb/ stable main

    The Vivaldi web browser has reached the new stable 1.8 release earlier today features new advanced History.

    The start page contains a new history tab, that gives you a list, daily, weekly, or monthly history overviews. There are also graphs and a color-coded heat map overlay showing peaks of online activity and key browsing trends.

    There is also an option to search with a specified date range.

    A history icon has also been added into the left Side Panel provides a list of visited URLs. The Vivaldi team announced that “Vivaldi doesn’t collect your history data. All of this information is strictly private and local to your computer.”

    Other features in Vivaldi 1.8:

    • create notes with drag and drop
    • auto-muting options for tabs.
    • Option to set the home page to Start page.
    • Ability to open links in the current tab from the right-click menu.
    • An option to display hibernated tabs in grayscale.
    • Matches are highlighted in the address bar drop-down menu.
    • Image search from the right-click menu.

    If you have a previous version of Vivaldi browser installed, you should be able to upgrade it via Software Updater:

    If you don’t see it, re-enable the Vivaldi repository via command in terminal:

    gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/vivaldi.list

    un-comment or add (if empty) the following line and save it:
