Simple Weather Indicator is an elegant and very simple system tray applet that displays the current weather condition of the user’s location in Unity and Gnome 3.

The applet is developed with Python and uses two web service calls and to detect user’s location and temperature respectively.

How to Install Simple Weather Indicator via PPA in Ubuntu:

The developer has made the indicator into PPA repository, available for Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 16.10, Ubuntu 17.04, and derivatives.

To install it, simply open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run following commands one by one to get it from PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kasra-mp/ubuntu-indicator-weather

sudo apt update

sudo apt install indicator-weather

For those who don’t want to add PPA, grab the latest “indicator-weather_x.x-xxx_all.deb” package from:

Then click install via Ubuntu Software App.


To remove the applet, run following command in terminal:

sudo apt remove indicator-weather

And remove the PPA by going to System Settings -> Softwware & Updates -> Other Software tab.

How to Install My-weather-indicator in Ubuntu:

The weather app is available in the developer’s PPA for all current Ubuntu releases. Follow the steps below to add PPA and install the software:

1. Add PPA

Open terminal from app launcher or via Ctrl+Alt+T keys. When it opens, paste below command and hit run:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/atareao

Type in your password (no visual feedback when typing) when it asks and hit Enter to continue.


2. Install the software via Synaptic Package Manager after clicked Refresh button. Or run following commands one by one in terminal:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install my-weather-indicator

Once installed, you can future update of the software alongside other system packages via the Software Updater utility.

3. (Optional) To remove the PPA, use Software & Updates -> Other Software. To remove my-weather-indicator, use Synaptic Package Manager or run command below in terminal:

sudo apt-get remove my-weather-indicator

Weather App “My Weather Indicator” was finally made into PPA with Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid support.

My-weather-indicator is a small indicator displays your weather formation on Unity panel system tray area. It features:

  • support two locations, select location with OpenStreetMap
  • desktop widget with a few themes.
  • up to 7 day weather forecast, and forecast map.
  • support: Open Weather Map, Yahoo Weather,, World weather online.


How to install my-weather-indicator:

Open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run below commands one by one to install it from the developer’s PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/atareao

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install my-weather-indicator

Or grab the .deb installer (“my-weather-indicator_0.6.9-0extras14.04.2_all.deb”) from the launchpad page

After installing the software, launch it from the Dash and set your location, widget, weather service, display units, refresh frequency, etc.


Finally click the OK button and enjoy!

My-weather-indicator is a Unity indicator applet developed by atareao team. It displays the weather information, forecast, evolution, and forecast map of selected locations on Ubuntu panel. It also supports desktop widget.

Install My-weather-indicator:

Press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open the terminal. When it opens, run commands below one by one to add the developer’s PPA and install the indicator:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/atareao 

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install my-weather-indicator

If you don’t want to add the PPA, grab the .deb installer directly from Launchpad Page.

The first time you launch the indicator, the Preferences window opens, there you can set your location, second location, show widget or not, widget skin, weather services, units, auto-start, refresh frequency, and more.
