How to Install Stunt Rally 2.6 in Ubuntu 14.04, 15.04

Stunt Rally, an open-source rally game with Stunt elements, finally reached the 2.6 release with new tracks, cars and other improvements.

Now this VDrift and OGRE based racing game features 172 tracks in 31 sceneries, 20 cars and a Track Editor. See the changelog of Stunt Rally 2.6.

How to Install / Upgrade Stunt Rally in Ubuntu:

PlayDeb repository is currently building the game binaries for Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.04 and their derivatives. Check out its repository page before doing below steps.

1. Add PlayDeb repository:

Open terminal from the Dash, App Launcher, or via Ctrl+Alt+T shortcut key. When it opens, run command:

sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu trusty-getdeb games" >/etc/apt/sources.list.d/playdeb.list'

For Ubuntu 15.04, replace trusty with vivid in the code.

Then run command to get the keyring:

wget -q -O- http://archive.getdeb.net/getdeb-archive.key | sudo apt-key add -

For Linux Mint 17.x, you may enable this repository from Software Sources -> Additional repositories -> archive.getdeb.net

2. Then update system cache and install the game packages via below commands one by one:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install stuntrally

For Linux Mint, you may use Synaptic Package Manager instead to install it.

For those who don’t want to add PlayDeb repository and know a little about how to install a .deb binary and manually fix dependency issue, download the packages for ~~stuntrally~~ and ~~stuntrally-tracks~~.

Racing Game ‘Stunt Rally’ 2.5 Released [How to Install]

Open Source racing game Stunt Rally got a new release with new tracks, sceneries, and other features. Here is how to install it in Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 14.10.

Stunt Rally is an open source racing game with a track editor. It focuses on closed rally tracks with possible stunt elements (jumps, loops, pipes).

The 2.5 release was announced the day before yesterday, and below is the changelog:

167 tracks (20 New)
5 New sceneries: Surreal, Stone, Space, Alien, BlackDesert
Common
- Renamed all tracks with 3 letter prefixes, showing short name in list
  On Replays tab there is a button to “Rename All Old” replays,ghosts and records
Game
- New challenges and championships
- Solid fluids (e.g. ice, lava, added in editor fluids mode, but solid and flat)
- Rewind cooldown, after rewind 1 sec delay until next use is possible
- Fixed game setup update in multiplayer (before was updated only after track change)
GUI – Tracks list
- Now with short name, difficulty and length ratings (in default short view)
- Selectable columns, and filtering, button Y, Ctrl-F twice to toggle
Common
- Fixed black terrain on ATI/AMD Radeon cards
- Many smaller fixes
- Changed translations, more info for strings, own program to generate .pot, topic, Wiki
- New user log files with errors and warnings only, ogre.err and ogre_ed.err
Editor
- Easier on pipe creating, mark (key 8) now also moves pipe down (ctrl-8 the old way)
- On pipe sections now marked on minimap as orange
- Up/down keys working in pick window and objects lists, buildings groups list
- Checkbox to ignore all “Wrong checkpoint” messages on track (for curly tracks where checks overlap road)
- Better checkpoints in pipe, now in center and radius 1
Tweak
- Reference graph for tires, loading tires
Code
- Reworked Road_Rebuild.cpp, cleaner, data stucts, split to Road_Prepass.cpp
- Split common .cfg to settings_com.h and cpp
- specMap_rgb option in .mat (for rgb only specular maps)
- Check if tracks and cars exist before replay load
- Fixed most CppCheck warnings

How to Install Stunt Rally:

2.5 release will be available in PlayDeb repository very soon, so far it’s Stunt Rally 2.4, available for Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04, and Linux Mint 17. Check out the webpage.

1. Enable PlayDeb repository.

For Linux Mint, go to Start Menu -> Software Sources -> Additional repositories -> check out the box that says “archive.getdeb.net”.

For Ubuntu, press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open the terminal. When it opens, run:

sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu trusty-getdeb games" >/etc/apt/sources.list.d/playdeb.list'

Then get the key by command:

wget -q -O- http://archive.getdeb.net/getdeb-archive.key | sudo apt-key add -

2. After checking for updates, you can install Stunt Rally from Synaptic Package Manager. Or run below commands one by one:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install stuntrally

Open Source Racing Game ‘Stunt Rally’ Gets A New Release

Open source racing game Stunt Rally just reached 2.4 release with lots of updates.

According to the changelog, the new release comes with all 147 tracks (6 new, 12 old deleted, some renewed), 2 new sceneries (Crystals, GreeceWhite), 3 new cars (4 renewed, 2 old deleted). Also there are a few improvements on UI and game experiences.

Install Stunt Rally in Ubuntu:

For 64-bit Linux so far (as well as Windows .exe) download the latest release from the link below and run the executable from its bin folder.

Download Stunt Rally

For Ubuntu 14.04 and Linux Mint 17, you can also get it from Playdeb repository. To do so, do below steps:

1. Press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open the terminal. When it opens, paste the command below and hit enter. Type in your password when prompt.

sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu trusty-getdeb games"

2. Also run command to get the key:

wget -q -O- http://archive.getdeb.net/getdeb-archive.key | sudo apt-key add -

3. Finally install the game from Synaptic Package Manager (available in Software Center) after clicking reload button to update package lists:

Stunt Rally 2.3 Released With New Tracks & New Look, Ubuntu 14.04 PPA

Stunt Rally, a free and open-source game based on VDrift and OGRE, with Track Editor, now is at version 2.3. Here’s how to install Stunt Rally 2.3 in Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty LTS.

Install Stunt Rally:

Stunt Rally 2.2 released, Install it in Ubuntu 13.10

Stunt Rally is an open-source VDrift and OGRE based racing game with track editor. Stunt Rally 2.2 was released recently with many new features and bug fixes. Here’s how to install it in Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy.

What’s New in Stunt Rally 2.2:

Game

Challenges (new game mode)
- Short series of tracks. Only the best drivers will succeed.
  Drive with no mistakes to win bronze,silver or gold prize.
  Normal simulation, no driving aids.
Multiplayer updated
- Host can press new game and continue on other track (no need to quit and create)
- Game info text, track info now on track tab
Hud
- New layout (gauges on right, minimap on left)
- Times bar shows current points and time difference each checkpoint
- Lap result window (last, best times, final points) on right
Input checkbox to bind 1 axis to both throttle and brake
Rocks with better collision (triangle mesh)
Better water and mud particles
Damage repair each lap option
Auto camera change in loops (by marking checkpoints in editor, key 7)

Gui reworked, more icons, also on Input tab
Graphics presets now on Screen tab (need to quit after change)

Fixed minimap road preview save in editor (shader errors)
No simulation before game start (fix multiplayer jumps, but shows car landing more)

Install Stunt Rally 2.2:

The PlayDeb has made the new release into its repository for Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy. So we can follow the steps below to install it.

1. Add the PlayDeb repository

Press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, run commands below to add the repository:

sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu saucy-getdeb games" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/playdeb.list'

Then get the key:

wget -q -O- http://archive.getdeb.net/getdeb-archive.key | sudo apt-key add -

2. Install the required package: ttf-liberation

The game requires package ttf-liberation which is available in all other Ubuntu releases except Ubuntu 13.10. Don’t know why, but you can download it from:

ttf-liberation for raring

3. Check for udpates and install Stunt Rally

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install -y stuntrally

Once installed, open the game or track editor from menu or Unity Dash.
