How to Install HPLIP 3.22.6:

Firstly, download the “hplip-3.22.6.run” installer from the link page below:

Then, open your Downloads folder, right-click on blank area and select “Open in Terminal“. It will open terminal and automatically navigate to the folder as working directory.

When terminal opens, run following commands one by one to add executable permission, and run installer script:

chmod u+x hplip-3.22.6.run
./hplip-3.22.6.run

In the terminal screen, it will ask you a few questions during the installation process. Except for password authentication, it’s OK to hit Enter to answer default for all questions!

After installation, plug or re-plug your printer/scanner and open the HP device manager application to get start:

Uninstall HPLIP 3.22.6

While running the installer script in terminal, it automatically creates “hplip-3.22.6” folder in your user Downloads directory!

Right-click on that folder in your file manager and select “Open in Terminal”, finally run the uninstall script via command:

sudo ./uninstall.py

If you’ve already removed that folder, re-run the .run installer will generate the folder again.

5 responses to HP Printer Driver HPLIP 3.22.6 Adds Ubuntu 22.04, Fedora 36 & New Devices Support

  1. Had similar issue for setting up printer HP P1006 in Ubuntu 22.04

    $ hp-plugin

    Checking for network connection…
    Downloading plug-in from: None
error: Plugin download failed with error code = 8
error: file does not match its checksum. File may have been corrupted or altered

    Solved by this answer https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/552897-Hplip-plugin-checksum-error

    cd
    wget https://developers.hp.com/sites/default/files/hplip-3.22.6-plugin.run -O hplip-3.22.6-plugin.run
    wget https://developers.hp.com/sites/default/files/hplip-3.22.6-plugin.run.asc -O hplip-3.22.6-plugin.run.asc
    hp-plugin –plugin=~/ -i

  2. I am trying to install 3.22.6 to run a P1005 laserjet, but all attempts to install the required plugin, hplip-3.22.6-plugin.run results in a checksum error and it aborts. I have downloaded the plugin, that comes as a shell text file, which I then save and try to run using the “sh” command, and that fails too, with a checksum error. I am not familiar with gpg .asc authentication, as that is the only signature file also available. I would greatly appreciate some assistance if available

  3. Simpler solution, if you have the folder: After several hours trying, without success, to install HPLIP and the plugins for an HP LJ P1006 on Ubuntu 22.04, I went to a separate partition on the HD, containing a prior 22.04 installation (don’t ask why I have it.) At any rate, the P1006 had been installed there before the move to a new computer, and it still printed from that older installation. So I renamed the existing .hplip folder on the target partition, copied the .hplip folder and its contents (/home/myname/.hplip) from the older partition, pasted it into the target 22.04 OS in the concomitant location and held my breath. Rebooted and, voila, printing from the P1006.

  4. i have a problem when i install driver for hp lazer printer i get a message and impression was failled
    plugin installation is failled
