Ubuntu 26.10, code-name Stonking Stingray, is a short term release that will have 9 months support until July 2027. It’s expected to be powered by Linux Kernel 7.2 and feature GNOME 51 desktop.

Though, the snapshot so far features GNOME Desktop 51 Beta, and Kernel 7.0. Besides the desktop specific changes, the release added new “Check if this computer is Ubuntu Certified” option in system settings.

With it enabled, it will send your hardware details to Canonical (the company behind Ubuntu) servers. Then it will show you if your computer is one of Ubuntu certified devices that are tested for reliability and performance, ensuring the best Ubuntu experience.
