QuiteRSS Feed Reader 0.16.0 Released with Enhancement

QuiteRSS 0.16 PPA

QuiteRSS is an open-source RSS/Atom feed reader aims to be quite fast and comfortable to user. It’s written in Qt/С++, available for Linux, Windows, OS X, OS/2.

The latest QuiteRSS 0.16.0 was released on May 24th with following new features added:

  • Case-insensitive filters, news searching and feed sorting
  • Regular expressions support in user’s filters
  • Multiselect feeds
  • Ability to set style table for news (Options->Feeds)
  • News style “Rstyle_v1.2.css”
  • Button “Share” in browser toolbar
  • Option “View->Show/Hide->Status panel”
  • Feed option “RTL” (“Display” tab)
  • Feed option “Enable JavaScript” (“Display” tab)
  • Ability to add action “Create backup” to toolbar
  • Shortcut and button “Save page to DB instead of news description”

The new release also did some visual tweaks on UI and now it saves path to folder of the last backup. According to the changelog, there are some bug-fixes:

  • Data loss
  • Opening links in external browser (Unix)
  • Displaying incorrect time with consideration of local time
  • Application autostart (PortableApps)
  • Processing some feeds when authorizing using cookie

QuiteRSS Ubuntu

Install QuiteRSS in Ubuntu:

The new release will be available in the maintainer’s PPA for Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 13.10, and Ubuntu 12.04.

To install it, press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open the terminal. When it opens, run the commands below one by one:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:quiterss/quiterss

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install quiterss

So far, this latest release is QuiteRSS 0.14.2 (30 Dec 2013), which contains below changes:

  • Added: Setting for text and background colors of focused feed

  • Changed: Load feed’s favicon from main webpage

Install QuiteRSS:

For Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.04, Ubuntu 12.10, Ubuntu 12.04, Linux Mint and their derivatives, we can easily install QuiteRSS from PPA.

To do so, press Ctrl+Alt+T to open terminal and run commands below one by one:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:quiterss/quiterss

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install quiterss

For Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty LTS, you can search & install this app in Ubuntu Software Center.

RSSOwl, the powerful RSS / RDF / Atom News Feed Reader now is at version 2.2.1. The developer announced in the website:

After some time without news from RSSOwl, I am happy to release version 2.2.1. You will now find quick access to common actions like archiving or labeling right below the article content. Especially for articles with lots of content this means you no longer have to scroll all the way up to the title to run actions on the news. Install RSSOwl:

The GetDeb repository has built this release for Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise and Linux Mint 13/16. To get started installing it, follow the steps below:

1. Add GetDeb repository:

For Ubuntu user, download and double-click to install this deb.

For Linux Mint user, there’s an option under Software Sources -> Additional Repositories -> archive.getdeb.net.

2. Use Synaptic Package Manager to reload package lists and install the app. Or just run below commands in terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T):

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install rssowl

Install RSSOwl Feed Reader on Ubuntu From PPA

RSSOwl is a reader for RSS, PDF, Atom News. Since Google Reader is no longer running, RSSOwl added the option to synchronize with Google.

This simple and brief tutorial will show you how to install the latest RSSOwl on Ubuntu 13.04 Raring, 12.10 Quantal, 12.04 Precise from GetDeb repository.

To get started, press Ctrl+Alt+T to open terminal, then follow the below steps:

1.) Copy and paste this command and run in terminal to download getdeb package:

wget http://archive.getdeb.net/install_deb/getdeb-repository_0.1-1~getdeb1_all.deb

2.) Install the downloaded package to add the repository:

sudo dpkg -i getdeb-repository_0.1-1~getdeb1_all.deb

3.) Update:

sudo apt-get update

4.) Install the reader:

sudo apt-get install rssowl
