Frame, the free open-source graphical front end for FFmpeg media library, released new 0.32.0 version for Linux, Windows, and macOS.
For those who never heard of Frame, it’s a Rust written application that use GPUI-CE (the community edition of GPU-accelerated user interface framework) for a modern graphical interface to manage FFmpeg operations.
As you see via the screenshot above, it provides a simple interface, allowing to easily rotate, flip, crop, and trim your media with live preview. It supports re-encode processing mode to convert your video or audio files, and, steam copy mode to fast trim or re-mux without re-encoding.
Tt provides many presets for using the app to convert media to animated GIF or for web share and social media, such as YouTube video, X, TikTok, and Discord.
And, it supports the common used media formats, such as mp4, mkv, avi (input only), webm, mov, gif, mp3, mp4a, wav, flac, and, common used video codecs H.264/H.264, VP9, Apple ProRes, SVT-AV1. As well, it support batch conversion.
With the most recent 0.32.0 version, it supports both Light and Dark UI theme, and includes an UI scaling option to change fonts to 80%, 90%, 100%, 110%, 125%, 150%, 175%, 200% for better HiDPI screens support. While others are mostly bug-fixes and security updates.
How to Get Frame FFmpeg GUI
The app is great for beginners who hate using FFmpeg from command line, but it’s so far only half an year old that may include many bugs.
Frame provides official packages for Linux, Windows, and macOS, which are available t o download in Github releases page via the link below:
For Linux, select download the AppImage, X86_64 for modern Intel/AMD or aarch64 for Snapdragon X and Raspberry Pi. Then, add executable permission from its properties and run to launch the application.
It’s also available to install as Flatpak package which runs in sandbox environment. And, Fedora and Linux Mint may search & install it from system software app.
