It’s been more than 8 years since the last 1.3.1 stable. Clementine, the old popular music player and library organizer, finally got a new stable release!

Clementine is a free open-source music player inspired by Amarok 1.4. It provides an easy to use Qt5 user interface to play and manage large music collections, while keeping fast and lightweight.

Besides local music playback, the player also supports internet radios, such as last.fm, radio-browser.info, Subsonic. And, it can search and play you music from cloud, including Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and more.

Strawberry is an open-source fork of Clementine music player aimed at music collectors and audiophiles.

Strawberry is written in C++ with Qt 5 toolkit. The development started in 2018 while Clementine was not in active development (now development of Clementine revives).

How to Install Strawberry in Ubuntu 18.04, 20.04:

The software offers Snap package (runs in sandbox) which can be installed simply from Ubuntu Software.

Also the official Strawberry PPA maintains the latest .deb packages for Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 19.10, Ubuntu 20.04, Linux Mint 19.x, and their derivatives.

1.) Open terminal either by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard or by searching for ‘terminal’ from ‘Show Applications’ menu. When it opens, run command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jonaski/strawberry

Type user password (no asterisk feedback) when it asks for sudo prompts and hit Enter to continue.

2.) After adding the PPA, run commands to refresh package cache and install the music player:

sudo apt update

sudo apt install strawberry

Uninstall Strawberry:

To remove the PPA repository, either go to Software & Updates -> Other Software:

or run command in terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:jonaski/strawberry

To remove the music player and music collection organizer:

sudo apt remove --autoremove strawberry

The first release candidate of Clementine 1.4.0, an audio player inspired by Amarok 1.4, was released today.

Though the last 1.3.1 was released more than 3 years ago, the development of Clementine is being active all the time. Now Clementine 1.4.0 rc1 is available to install in Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 19.04, Ubuntu 19.10 with no announcement or change-log though.

Go to the release page by clicking the link below:

Select download the .deb package from your Ubuntu edition.

  • bionic for Ubuntu 18.04, and Linux Mint 19.x
  • disco for Ubuntu 19.04
  • eoan for Ubuntu 19.10.
  • and amd64 for 64-bit system, i386 for 32-bit system.

Finally install the package either via Gdebi package installer or by running command in terminal:

sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/clementine_1.4.0*.deb

Once installed, open the music player from your system application launcher and enjoy!

Clementine, an open-source audio player inspired by Amarok 1.4, released version 1.3.9 (then 1.3.92) a few days ago. Here’s how to install it in Ubuntu.

Though the last version 1.3.1 was released more than 3 years ago, Clementine player is still in active development, and version 1.3.9 (as well as 1.3.92) was released in recent days as the test release. However, there’s no announcement, no change-log so far. They seem to be the development releases for the next major release.

The latest Clementine 1.3.92 is available to download in the link below:

So far it offers .deb packages for Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic), Ubuntu 19.04 (disco), and Ubuntu 19.10 (eoan).

Just grab the .deb matches your Ubuntu edition (amd64 for 64-bit) and click install via Gdebi (install it via Ubuntu Software) package installer.

Once installed, open the player from your system application launcher and enjoy!

Clementine Music Player has just reached the new stable 1.3 release. Official Linux binary adds support for Ubuntu 16.04.

After two years of development, Clementine 1.3 was finally released earlier today. It brings so many new features and a large number of bug-fixes.

How to Install Clementine 1.3 in Ubuntu:

Select download the official binary for your Ubuntu release (Check System Settings -> Details) from:

You can also install Clementine 1.3 from its official PPA, which allows you to receive future Clementine updates along with other system updates via Software Updater utility.

1. Add PPA.

Open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and paste below command and hit run to add PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:me-davidsansome/clementine

Type in your password when it asks and hit Enter to continue.

2. Update package cache and install Clementine. You can use Synaptic Package Manager instead if installed.

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install clementine

Want to remotely control the desktop PC music playback via your phone? Clementine music player has a built-in feature allows to remotely control player using Android mobile over LAN (or WAN).

All you need to do is enable this feature in the desktop player and install the official app ‘Clementine Remote’ on your phone.

1. For Ubuntu 14.04 and earlier editions, you have to upgrade to the latest Clementine release by installing the package from the official link below:

32-bit or 64-bit? Check it out at System Settings -> Details.

The downloaded package is .deb file, just double-click on it to open with Ubuntu Software Center and click install button to install the player.

Tip: Restart your computer if you were upgrading Clementine from a previous version.

2. Open the music player and go to menu “Tools -> Preferences”. Select Network Remote in the left pane, then do:

  • Enable remote control by ticking the box ‘Use a network remote control’
  • Depends on your need, leave the port default or change it.
  • Set LAN only or both LAN & WAN access
  • Set an authentication code, so that clients need to type the code to connect.
  • Tick ‘Allow downloads’ if you want to download songs from Clementine to Android.

3. Now on your Android device, install the ‘Clementine Remote’ app from Google Play.

Once installed, start the app, type in the IP of the remote machine and click connect.

    The official download page provides DEB packages for all supported Ubuntu releases, including Ubuntu 14.04. Just download the package for your Ubuntu and OS type, and install it via Gdebi (recommended, it’s available in Software Center) or Ubuntu Software Center.
