Firefox 36 Stable Released [How-to-Upgrade in Ubuntu]

Mozilla finally announced the stable release of Firefox 36, the new release features HTTP/2 protocol support and various bug-fixes.

The full HTTP/2 protocol support in Fixfox 36 enables a faster, more scalable, and more responsive web. Firefox 36 also adds beta support for native HTML5 YouTube playback, but it’s not enabled by default. To enable this feature, go to about:config page, search for and set value of “media.mediasource.enabled” to true

Hints the browser of elements that will be modified. The browser will perform some performance optimization for these
Changed JavaScript ‘const’ semantics to conform better to the ES6 specification.
The const declaration is now block-scoped and requires an initializer. It also can not be redeclared anymore.
Improved ES6 generators for better performance
Eval sources now appear in the Debugger. Debug JavaScript code that is evaluated dynamically, either as a string passed to eval() or as a string passed to the Function constructor
DOM Promises inspection
Inspector: More paste options in markup view
CSS gradients work on premultiplied colors
Fix some unexpected logout from Facebook or Google after restart
Various security fixes

How to Upgrade Firefox in Ubuntu:

Mozilla Firefox has reached version 33.0. It has been made into main repositories for Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 12.04, and derivatives.

How to Upgrade Firefox:

Just run regular updates via Software Updater will bring you to the latest Firefox 33. You can choose only upgrade Firefox from the utility if you don’t want to upgrade all your system.

If you don’t see Firefox in the update list, change the download server to Main Server from Software & Updates or Software Sources utility.

Firefox 32 Released, How to Upgrade it in Ubuntu 14.04 & 12.04

Mozilla Firefox has just released version 32.0 with improved performances and a few fixes. Canonical has made this release into the updates & security repositories for Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 12.04.

The latest Firefox 32 brings was released on September 2, with faster HTTP caching and public key pinning support enabled.

Upgrade to Firefox 32 in Ubuntu:

For Ubuntu, open Software Updater (or Update Manager for Ubuntu 12.04) from Unity dash. After checking for updates, you’ll see the latest Firefox available in the list.

You can also upgrade Firefox in Ubuntu and its derivatives using Synaptic Package Manager (available in Software Center) after clicked the Reload button.

Firefox 30 Stable Released, How to Upgrade in Ubuntu

Mozilla Firefox 30.0 was finally released just a few minutes ago on June 10, 2014. The new release features GStreamer 1.0 support, Mac OS X command-E sets find term to selected text, and Sidebars button in browser chrome enables faster access to social, bookmark, & history sidebars.

Firefox 27 Lands in Ubuntu, Here’s How to Upgrade

1. First install Synaptic Package Manager from Ubuntu Software Center.

2. Open Synaptic and Click Reload button to update package lists.

3. Search firefox and choose it from the list, click “Mark for Upgrade” in its context menu.

Some web tutorials lead the readers to install Firefox via the PPA repository which indeed is not neccessary because Canonical will update Ubuntu universe repository as soon as a new stable release of Firefox comes out.

1.) Open Ubuntu Software Center, search for and install the Synaptic Package Manager

2.) Open Synaptic Package Manager from Unity Dash.

3.) Click on Reload button to update package lists.

4.) Search for Firefox in Quick filter box

5.) Right click on the language version you want, click Mark for Upgrade

6.) Finally click on Apply to start upgrading.

In the new release, the mixed content blocking has been enabled to protect users from eavesdroppers and man-in-the-middle attacks on HTTPS pages, the about:memory’s functional UI (user interface) has been improved, the notifications of plugin installation has a simpler interface, and social share functionality has been added. Synaptic Package Manager provides a graphical way to upgrade to the latest Firefox web browser.

To get started, open the tool and click Reload button to update package lists, search firefox in the box, right-click and choose “Mark for Upgrade”, and finally click the Apply to start upgrading.
