3 Ways to Create Wifi Hotspot in Ubuntu 14.04 (Android Support)

September 22, 2014 — 190 Comments

create wifi hotspot in Ubuntu for android

Dear readers, I’ve found a new way to create wireless hotspot in Ubuntu, AP mode with Android devices support, using Unity’s Network Manager.

After this tutorial, I’ve found 3 ways to create wifi hotspot in ap mode:

  1. Using Ap-hotspot, an open-source app from github: see this post.
  2. Using KDE connection editor, see the post.
  3. Using Unity’s Default Network Manager with a little hack. See below

Below I will show you how to use Unity’s default network manager to create a wireless hotspot with Android devices support, tested in 64-bit Ubuntu 1404 with Nexus 4 and Sumsung Galaxy ace3.

1. Disable WIFI and plug in an internet cable to your laptop so that your Ubuntu is connect to a wired internet and wireless is disabled.

2. Go to Network Icon on top panel -> Edit Connections …, then click the Add button in the pop-up window.

Edit Network Connections

3. Choose Wi-Fi from the drop-down menu when you’re asked to choose a connection type:

Choose Connection Type

4. In next window, do:

  • Type in a connection name. The name will be used later.
  • Type in a SSID
  • Select mode: Infrastructure
  • Device MAC address: select your wireless card from drop-down menu.

create-wifi-hotspot

5. Go to Wi-Fi Security tab, select security type WPA & WPA2 Personal and set a password.

6. Go to IPv4 Settings tab, from Method drop-down box select Shared to other computers.

wifi-ipv4

When done, click the save button.

After above steps, a configuration file created under /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections directory. File name is same to the connection name you typed in step 4.

Now press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, paste the commands below and hit enter to edit the configuration file:

gksu gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/wifi-hotspot

Replace wifi-hotspt with the connection name you typed in step 4.

When the file opens, find out the line mode=infrastructure and change it to mode=ap. Finally save the file.

Change to AP mode

When everything’s done, enable WIFI from Network Manager icon on the panel. It should automatically connect to the hotspot you created. If not, select “Connect to Hidden Wi-Fi Network …” and select it from the drop-down box.

wifi-hotspot

Now you can search and connect the access point from your Android mobile and enjoy!

  1. wow….it really works
thank you very much for sharing your knowledge

    • Hello when i run gksu gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/aglafon-p7-1209
i got a file with no text what so ever? i had set it up so i can use my laptop on wifi.
But i can see the shares with my and my wifes computer but no internet. i also checked
my wifes unpluged network cable and same issue can see computers but no internet ?
The wifi is in my tower with a good antenna installed our isp is frontier DSL but was not
using its wifi due to lack of range.
Please feel free to e-mail if you want
      Thanks Al

      • to get the desired text file you should give the same names for SSID and connection name It Will definitely works

      • How did you fix that!!! I am still getting a blank gedit file named wifi-hotspot. please help me out

        • you are getting Blank b/c you used the wifi-hostpot as it is. You must use the name of the wifi you used to create at the begining.
          sudo gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/your wifi name

Ask me if you face any problem

      • make sure to capitalize network manager like so “NetworkManager”

      • Hello,Lafon
It was my mistake too. I know I am too late but it might help for others.
        “gksu gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/…..”
The command must be “sudo gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/”the name of the wifi you created on the previous step”
save and exit. Bear in mind you should have to disable the wifi when you create it. Finally Enable it.

It works for me perfectly. Leave me a message if you face any problem

    • Hay Ji m! Thank you very much for useful information. I’ve tried many times to connect to my hotspot but each time it failed to connect until I tried your second solution (Using KDE connection editor) and voila! It now works like charms! Thank you once again!

  2. Abdulbasit F Shaikh October 22, 2014 at 7:04 pm

Man…you are really genius…thank you very very much…

  3. Hi!
Looked like the solution to my problem, but ap-hotspots tells me my driver/modem doesn’t support AP mode. :-( Thanks for the description anyhow.

But now my WIFI lan doesn’t work anymore, although I reinstalled the former (standard for 14.04) version of hostapd.

    Any hints?

  4. After restarting and reinstall of my WIFI it works again.

  5. i tried this methoad and my mobile detects the network but, it say wep secured and I couldn’t connect should i need to un-install ap-hotspot

  6. I used the 3rd method (with Default Network Manager)

Is there any possibility to activate this Wifi Hotspot from the begining?…because, for me, is a little tiresome to re-activate the Wifi connection everytime I start the system.

    Ubuntu 14.04_x64 (minimal from scratch+MATE)

  7. using the default network manager there is a problem that is in the phone it says so internet access

  8. i tried with default network manager but it says time out

  9. I used the third method.
    system: lenovo b570 / ubuntu 14.04
android mobile : galaxy nexys / android 4.2.1

Problem: every time mobile connects to the hotspot wifi, automatically disconnects after not more than a minute, but galaxy young is connected continiously (android 2.3.6), in the same network

    tried solution:
1.) changed the wifi freq band to 2.4ghz – same problem persists

    please reply

  13. hello, i have a problem, this hotspot was working really great, and one day, did not connect, i cant connect to hotspot, try to connect to hidden network, and now i dont know what to do, i was hopping you could help me, i saw sudo gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/wifi-hotspot , and it is bank, or there is nothing on there

  14. I got this ERRor after i enterng passwrd

(gedit:4330): Gtk-WARNING **: Calling Inhibit failed: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files

  15. Thanks a ton!!! The simplest way I found on net.

  16. What if no connection file created after I added it?

    enp0s25 wlp3s0

  17. GREAT! Thanx, better than ap-hotspot which have an issue on Trusty

  18. Really cool! Worked straight away! Thanks a ton!

  27. thank you very much Ji m it works fine.

  28. Mine is Ubuntu laptop which has admin protected and password can’t be shared. So i dont have the password to login to my network where the ap os stored. Do you have any other way to create a hotspot.

    Regards,
    Manish.

  29. When i change to “ap” in file the Connection name is disappearing ?? and also keep on showing connecting when i use “hidden network option” and Create a connection with same name

  30. Cool! I just tried it and it just works. Thank you very much.

  31. I did all the steps but the network does not show on my android
I have xperia p with jellybeans
    can you help me please

  32. Thanks a lot. works perfect.

  33. Thanks a lot guys. nice and simple step.

  34. thanks for this tutorial,,, this is usefull

and iwant to know how to see how many device and it’s name, that are currently connected to our shared wifi network , and how to manage who can access this shared connection?

  35. Hi, I am having a problem :(
    After runing the command
    gksu gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/wifi-hotspot
I am getting an empty file…..there is nothing to change :(
    Please help me….

    • For command:

      gksu gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/wifi-hotspot

You should replace wifi-hotspot with the connection name you created in step 4 (see the pic. in that step).

      • I am also having the same problem. the file i open via gedit turns out to be empty. but when i replace gedit in the command with nano, i can see the file contents. there i change the mode but i have no idea how to save it now. can you please help me.

  36. I could create hotspot but the problem was with security tab. Whenever I tried to select some security I could not save the respective option and it becomes an open network. Please tell me how to add security in another way. I even tried to add that in that configuration file but still in vain.

    • I could create hotspot but the problem was with security tab. Whenever I tried to select some security I could not save the respective option and it becomes an open network. Please tell me how to add security in another way. I even tried to add that in that configuration file but still in vain.

  37. I could create the hotspot and my android/iphone gets connected successfully but I cannot connect to Internet with this wi-fi connections. I am not able to understand, what am I missing in this setup.

  38. i get an error “your device does not support ap mode”.

  39. Thank you sir…It worked for me without any error

  40. my gedit file shows nothing…i mean it is empty after 6th step!!

    • Instead of going to Edit connections, click on Create New Wi-Fi Network, setup the userid and password, and then use “gksu gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/(wifi-hotspot name)”in the terminal. It will work.

  41. thanks dude , it worked. :D

  42. am having a competely blank gedit file even after changing the ‘wifi-hotspot’ to the name I gave to the connection.

  43. Is there any way to disable growl popup notification from ap-hotspot in Ubuntu (while starting and stopping)

  44. Hy
I changed the following command gksu gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/wifi-hotspot,
    by this: sudo gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/Yassin_ubuntu
And the file is opened, but it is empty.
    WHAT IS THE PROBLEME??

    • You may go to Computer -> etc ->NetworkManager ->system-connections folder in your file browser and check out the exact file name

  45. Thanks for this tutorial, Ji m.

I was able to get it to work with all three methods, but once I activate the VPN, none of the devices connected to the hotspot are able to access the Internet. The VPN works on the system hosting the Wi-Fi hotspot, and the connection remains on the devices connected to it, but no data downloads on them.

Are you familiar with what the problem could be?

    Thanks again!

  46. Wow it worked for me. Ubuntu 13.10. Thank you Ji m.

  47. Thanks for this! I’m using Network Manager hack and it is working fine. Now I want this wifi hotspot to use a SOCKS proxy 127.0.0.1:8080, how do I do that?

  48. Hey Jim,
I followed this and it perfectly worked in Ubuntu 14.04 but today I installed Ubuntu 12.04 and I have tried this and others too but nothing is working, please help me

  49. (gedit:3445): Gtk-WARNING **: Calling Inhibit failed: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files

I am getting the following error and my wifi has got disabled. Kindly help.

  50. @rahul
I get the same error every time I’m editing the configuration file created under /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections directory. Just go on, sve the file and then activate your wifi. It works for me.

  51. Hi

when i select wpa and wpa2 personal and typed password it not allow to save.

    Any idea.

  52. when i enter this command

the files opens but its blank and i can’t edit anything , please help
    thankx

  53. Diganta Chakrobarty February 27, 2015 at 10:57 am

Thank you, It works fine. I had been looking for this for a while.

  54. Thank you very much for the post.
I have successfully configured my access point (in a snapshot) from my wlan usb-stick following the method number 3.

I have a question: is it possible to change the static ip of the network?
I have tried by mean of “ifconfig” commands without any result, my gateway still remain statically set to 10.42.0.1.

    Thank you again.

  55. Hi
I followed all steps but it doesnt work for me.
It is not showing the created hot spot in my android device wireless list
    what I should do?

  56. Baron D’Holbach March 17, 2015 at 6:58 pm

    Hi,

I followed the steps, but my Android connection keeps failing during authentication.

  57. You rock ! You saved my lots of 3G data for mobile ;)

    Thanks again.

    • mine is connecting but no internet connection is being shared despite the computer being connected to a cable with internet access, please help me out

  58. Worked like a charm.. thanks. Able to connect Windows phones also to hotspot.

  59. YES!
The one tutorial which ACTUALLY worked for my Nokia Lumia 520 Phone !
    Yay !

  60. Impressive! Thank U!

  61. I have followed all the steps mentioned above and successfully created wifi network. But i am unable to find that network name in other devices.

  62. How to create a configuration file??
    Sorry im a noob :-(

    • Now press Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard to open terminal. When it opens, paste the commands below and hit enter to edit the configuration file:

      gksu gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/wifi-hotspot
Replace wifi-hotspt with the connection name you typed in step 4. (NOTE File was created by step 4).

When the file opens, find out the line mode=infrastructure and change it to mode=ap. Finally save the file.

  63. Linux Mint Rebecca (17.1) it is simpler still. Bring up the Network Manager from the status bar icon, click the ‘Create a Wireless Hotspot’ Button, configure it and off you go. Note your normal WiFi network is disconnected while the hotspot is active so you have to have a wired connection for this to be useful.

To reconnect to your WiFi network after disabling the hotspot click on Connect to a Hidden Network button in the Network Manager Select your WiFi network connection from the Connection drop down list and hit the Connect button and you should be restored to normal.

    Thanx a lot!
Your steps are very to understand and works wonderfully.

  65. Hi Ji m,

I want to assign some specific IP to the hotspot say 10.10.0.1 but by default its picking 10.42.0.1. Can you please tell where to change such that networkmanager picks the desired IP ?

  66. fx bayu anggara May 8, 2015 at 3:24 pm

greats, work like charm on my freya(elementaryos) with instructions point 3,
    thanks

  67. I like this is, awesome great work….

  68. Rajendar Reddy May 10, 2015 at 9:05 am

Got connected successfully but frequent disconnections happening. My wifi connection lasting only for 1-2 minutes after that got disconnected.

  69. This has been buggin’ me for years! So simple! Solution nr. 3 works wonderfully. Thanks so much!

  70. Pablo Bounous May 13, 2015 at 11:08 am

    Hi,

It didn’t worked for me. After modifying the connection file for mode=ap, when I try to connect (open the connection from ubuntu) it stays connected to nothing after trying to do so for a while…

Ubuntu 15.04, Toshiba Satellite L505. Realtek 8101E/8102E network chip.

  71. This didn’t work on my ubuntu 14.04 even after following every step. Is there something that I’m missing? Do I need to reboot before it works?

  72. Works perfectly. Thanks.

  73. thank you it work also for laptops

  74. this is work !!

    thanks man

  75. Still don’t work. “the driver doesn’t support the ap mode” problem. And I have tried your solution which is to change the driver. My chip is Broadcom corporation BCM43142. and according to the website, it can only use wl driver. Is there anything else I can do?
BTW I can share wifi in windows system.

    • also, my iphone device can not use the ad-hoc wifi which is set by the normal unity. Sometimes, the iphone device can find the signal, but the wifi ask me for user name instead of only keywords.
BTW the /hostapd_1.0-3ubuntu2.1_i386.deb can not be found from your website, is there another source?

      Thank you

  76. my android phone(galaxy y duos lite) is asking for the password again and again and is getting disconnected

  77. Shivani Ghatge June 1, 2015 at 11:33 am

    Thanks! Works like a charm!

  78. Antony Andreatos June 2, 2015 at 3:44 pm

OMG! I have spent 3 days reading numerous ubuntu howto’s w/o result, but this 3rd way is the best ever! thanks a lot man!

  79. What is SSID? what should i put if im using asus zenfone with android 4.4.2 KK?

  80. thanks a lot
    works perfectly

  81. when i did this.
    gksu gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/wifi-hotspot

    it shows blank file.
I have also changed name of my ssid.

  82. When I tried this setting… my Device MAC address is not properly shown:
    Device MAC address: 00:00:00:00:00:00 (ra0)
hence unable to save and proceed, what may cause this problem, even i tried by changing the MAC address (look up through command ifconfig -a), but error message came:

    “Failed to activate connection
    (32) The connection’s MAC address did not match this device.”

I am using HP laptop, and install the device driver from https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B7kbO9nS2qKEMmQ5elZXVUhDRjA
    Please help!

  83. hi, just done evrything but unable to contact with wifihotspot…and it is not showing in phone also

  84. yes its working. thank you

  85. Hi,
    Thank you so much.
Yeah it works very nicely…. thank you again. :)

  86. How do I configure the wifi security ? I don’t want my neighbors to use it . Whenever I try to set the password , it disables

  87. Great fix only thing I had to do extra was make the connection a shared connection in the gui connection manager. Once I did that I changed it back to ap from infrastructure and bingo. worked like a charm.

  88. Thank you very much. Is there any way to check which devices are connected to the hotspot at any point of time?

  89. Thanks man. You saved me buying unnecessary 20€ Wifi thingy :)

  90. I tried the method 3. Everything was saved and all. But the connection doesn’t appear even on hidden network. I am using Ubuntu 14.04

  91. Thanks from IRAN

  92. It started working ..Thanks loads :)

  93. Great and simple solution, simply by changing the ‘mode’ parameter in the connection file. But my laptop is now assigning ip addresses in the 10.42.0.12 range, whereas my router works in the 192.168.1.1 range. Is there an equally simple way to have my ubuntu hotspot simply work as an access point and let the router assign the ip addresses to the laptop clients. Network setup is as follows:

Router –(Wired connection)–> Ubuntu Laptop –(wireless connection)–> Clients (Android Smartphones)

  94. Ngangbam Chandrasekhar July 15, 2015 at 6:11 am

    Thank you
    Its working for me too.
I have a query . Can we assign security password for the Hotspot created by this method? If so then please share how to do it. Thank you once again

  95. How to set password for that hotspot connection.

    thanks in advance.

  96. The solution if your phone get stucks in obtaining IP address:
    edit /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf, change dns=dnsmasq to #dns=dnsmasq
    and
    restart the network manager:
    sudo service network-manager restart

  97. t works fine on my Lubuntu 14.04 in my 10 years old computer! Thanks!!!

  98. I keep getting “Authentication problem” on my android phone and “invalid password” on MACbook. I have check and the password is correct. Anything i am doing wrong?
I check the file in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections and it is the same password i am entering.

  99. Carlos Godinez August 7, 2015 at 4:36 pm

excellent all works great thank you very much and people after making your settings it does not work, restart your computer that I committed errors, but restarting worked great all the steps

  100. I successfully create it (3rd method) in same machine with Ubuntu14.4, Ubuntu Mate 15.4, Linuxmint17. Thank you friend. You have made a great hack. But sorry to say that this does not work in Linuxmint 17.2. My android devices and other laptops (windows7) trying and lastly said ‘Authentication Problem’/ ‘Network Security Key Mismatch’. Signal strength is excellent, but could not connect at all.

    • In LinuxMint17.2 I found that network-manager, libnm-glib4, libnm-glib-vpn1, libnm-util2 version is 0.8.8.8-0ubuntu7.1; but in LinuxMint17 all are 0.8.8.8-0ubuntu7. Is the newer version causing problem?

  101. I got error
    (32) The connection’s MAC address did not match this device

When create AP using RALINK 7601.
I am very desprate to solve this problem.
    Can any body help me?

    Thx very much

  102. Thank you very much! Awesome post. It is amazing that such a little hack makes it possible. By the way, I used Elementary OS 0.3 Freya – the solution works perfectly.

  103. when i run this command:
    /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections$ sudo ap-hotspot configure
    output is :
Your wireless card or driver does not support Access Point mode

But in windows i can create hotspot with “connectify” please help

  104. I have done all the stuff but the file which is opened through the command is empty file. Can i get any other solution?

  105. Thanks a TON. I was wondering and doing this but i was missing some steps and also was missing some in-depth help like from you..Thanks again.

  106. Sorry to say that it doesnt work in pepermint6.

    • DId it in Peppermint 5, so it should work- based on same Ubuntu. I have a physical WifFi button- works when I press that. If you change password, or edit connection the mode goes back to “infrastructure”.

  107. I am keep on getting “Authentication problem” even though I am using the correct password and security type “WPA & WPA2 Personal”

  108. Many thanks Ji m! Now with my Lenovo PC under Ubuntu 14.04 it does work perfectly. I had the “Authentication problem” issue with my Android phone (not with my Samsung PC under Ubuntu 12.04) and I just changed the Wi-Fi Security to WEP 40/128-bit (even with no security it does work).
Unfortunately, if I follow the same steps in Ubuntu 12.04 the connection disappears (even from the hidden connections) once I modify the file from mode=infrastructure to mode=ap – similarly to what gocanny and vamsi experienced. Could you help me, please?

  109. Wowwww, between dozens of tutos I saw on Internet, that’s the only one which works on Ubuntu 15.04 and the trick is the little ack!
    Thanks a lot Ji m

  110. thanks it’s helped me a lot and working fine with ubuntu 14.04
    thanks again

  111. Hi Ji m , in my case i cannot authenticate i am type the same password as the one i used during the setup process but is not going through

  112. Hi,

On Xubuntu 14.04 it all seems to work OK but when connecting Andriod phone it says: Authentication Error occurred – on the phone and keeps asking again for the key.

    Any ideas?

    • Hi Martin, I had the same issue with my Android phone. Try to redo each step, but setting the Wi-Fi Security to WEP 40/128-bit (or even to no security, if you want/can), instead of WPA & WPA2 Personal. It worked for me.

  113. The hotspot is created. My phone(Moto G 2nd gen) detects the wifi network. But it keeps disconnecting and connecting repeatedly(in something like 5 seconds). What should I do to get rid of this problem?

  114. Its even simplier in UBUNTU GNOME ….

    1. top-right menu -> wifi -> settings
    2. click button [use as wifi hotspot] … thats all, simple as that :-), no need to set ssid or password, or any other details, its instantly generated and shown (computer name, random password).

  115. Hi Jim,

I tried the “3. Using Unity’s Default Network Manager with a little hack” and it worked perfectly. Could you please tell me how I can setup this up to run before I login? Is is possible to edit my /etc/network/interfaces file to run this at startup?

    Thank you

  116. Easy solution for linux mint 17.2, (others not worked for me)
    1. Click network icon on the bar.
    2.Choose create new WiFi network.
    3. Give a name for network
    4. Write a WPA & WPA personal password and create network
    5. Then right click network icon on the bar, choose edit connections
    6. Choose your new network, select wifi tab, then change mode from Ad-hoc to infrastructure
    7. In the general tab select the automatically connect to this network ……
    8. Make that step above

“After above steps, a configuration file created under /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections directory.

Finally save the file.”

    7. And finally right click network icon on the bar click enable networking, and do this again so the networking will restart.
    8. And
“When everything’s done, enable WIFI from Network Manager icon on the panel. It should automatically connect to the hotspot you created. If not, select “Connect to Hidden Wi-Fi Network …”

Worked perfectly out of the gate! I used the little wifi dongle that came with a ($35) Raspberry Pi. Chromecast is up and running against it.

    Many thanks!

  131. Using this method with standart network manager, but android phone cant load pages with this connexion. But if i connect to this network from another laptop, i can use internet without problems,
Other thing, is it possible to add some captive portal to this connexion?
    Thank’s for sharing!

  132. I followed the steps properly but in my case the file was empty now what is the next step
    please help me

  133. What I have run into is that while this works well to set up an access point, if I make any edits to the ap in network manager I have to re-hack the file because the type=ap gets overwritten.

When I don’t want the AP functionality and instead want to connect to another AP it doesn’t want to stay connected and always seems to jump to AP mode. Is there a way to prevent Ubuntu from automatically connecting to AP mode?

  134. It works.. I was trying a small password initially and I could not save the connection. You have to chose a longer password..

    Thanks

  135. after
    gksu gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/wifi-hotspot

but still l am not able to get it installed can anybody suggest me the exact command by which i can fix my problem

  137. Wow, you are the man. Haven’t tested it yet- ACER 5000 laptop (2006) w 64 bit AMD Turion + 64-bit Ubuntu 14.4 (actually Peppermint 5). Think this will work OK on mine? I have a huge graphics problem cause of an obsolete SIS display adapter- I can’t show or open the network manager at all- how do I start that connection from the Terminal?

  138. hello sir, but its showing this type of error
Gtk-WARNING **: Calling Inhibit failed: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files

    Hi Ji M,
Please help me with this error.
    ranasingha@ranasingha-system-product-name:~$ gksu gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/Rana

  140. It works very well thank you.
However, for some reason, there are some website that can’t be accessed.
My computer which is sharing my 4G connection can access all website, but my friend computer and his tablet can’t access some website…
It would not be a big issue if our websites (hosted by OVH) were not part of these unaccessible website (curiously we can access the webmail of OVH)…

Do you have any idea where the problem could come from? and how we could solve it?

I’m not expert, but after reading here and there, I have the word DNS coming back, but I don’t know what to do.

  141. For everyone with the blank file error, you should do the following:

    Open terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T);
    Execute the comands:
    cd /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/
    ls

You’ll see all the files in there. Probably there will be some files with the same name and a “~” in the end. These are the files that are making the problem.

    Just execute:
    sudo rm -f name_of_the_file~
(replace name_of_the_file with the name of the file you saw when you did “ls”)

and after this create your network again.

    Worked for me!

  142. I already did it. It works. Great instruction.

  143. durgesh@durgesh-Inspiron:~$ gksu gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connectiones/connection
The program ‘gksu’ is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
    sudo apt-get install gksu
    durgesh@durgesh-Inspiron:~$ sudo apt-get install gksu
