3D kart racing game SuperTuxKart 1.1 was finally released today after one RC release.

Compared to the previous RC release, SuperTuxKart 1.1 adds ability to change the touchscreen controller type in race paused dialog.

A summary of the new changes according to the release note:

  • Improved online multiplayer play
    • Fix network lags in various scenarios when playing online
    • Add AI support to local networking servers
  • UI enhancements
  • A new arena: Pumpkin Park
  • Mobile enhancements and iOS support
  • Complex text layout and emoji support
  • Story mode timer for speedrunners
  • Generic polish and minor improvements

How to install SuperTuxKart 1.1 in Ubuntu:

The new release package should normally be made into the official PPA in 2 or 3 days, available for Ubuntu 18.04 and higher. CHECK HERE before getting started.

1. Open terminal either by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T on keyboard, or by searching for ‘terminal’ from app launcher. When it opens, run command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stk/dev

Type user password (no asterisk feedback) when it prompts and hit Enter to continue.

2. Then either upgrade SuperTuxKart from an existing version via Software Updater:

or install the game via commands:

sudo apt update

sudo apt install supertuxkart

Once installed, open the game from your system application launcher and enjoy!

Uninstall:

To remove SuperTuxKart, open terminal and run command:

sudo apt remove --auto-remove supertuxkart supertuxkart-data

To remove the PPA, open Software & Updates -> Other Software, and remove the repository line:

What’s new in SuperTuxKart 1.1 rc1 according to the release note:

  • A new arena: Pumpkin Park

How to install SuperTuxKart 1.1 rc in Ubuntu:

The dev PPA has built the packages for Ubuntu 18.04 and higher.

1. Open terminal either via Ctrl+Alt+T keyboard shortcuts, or by searching for ‘terminal’ from app launcher. When it opens, run command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stk/dev

Type user password (no asterisk feedback) when it prompts and hit Enter to continue.

2. Then install the game via commands:

sudo apt update

sudo apt install supertuxkart

Once installed, open the game from your system application launcher and enjoy!

Uninstall:

To remove SuperTuxKart, open terminal and run command:

sudo apt remove --auto-remove supertuxkart supertuxkart-data

To remove the PPA, open Software & Updates -> Other Software, and remove the repository line:

The first release candidate of the open-source kart racing game, SuperTuxKart 0.10 RC1, was released today.

Since the last beta, SuperTuxKart rc1 features:

  • Networked multiplayer (over LAN or the net) is now ready for general use
  • Replace the old mansion track with the new upgraded Ravenbridge Mansion track.
  • Add the Black forest add-on to the official STK track set!
  • Also numerous bugs have been fixed.

How to Install SuperTuxKart 0.10 in Ubuntu:

The followings steps will install the RC1 release at the moment for Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 18.10, Ubuntu 19.04.

This also works for the final SuperTuxKart 0.10 once it’s released.

1. Open terminal either via Ctrl+Alt+T keyboard shortcuts, or by searching for ‘terminal’ from app launcher. When it opens, run command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stk/dev

Type user password (no asterisk feedback) when it prompts and hit Enter to continue adding the PPA.

2. For Ubuntu 16.04 and Linux Mint, you need to run command to refreah system package cache:

sudo apt update

3. Finally install the game via command:

sudo apt install supertuxkart

Once installed, open the game from your system application launcher and enjoy!

Uninstall:

To remove SuperTuxKart, open terminal and run command:

sudo apt remove –auto-remove supertuxkart supertuxkart-data

The open source kart racing game, Supertuxkart 0.9.3, was released earlier today. The new release features in-game screen recording and Android support.

Supertuxkart 0.9.3 release highlight:

There’s a stable PPA contains the new 0.9.3 release for Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 17.04, Ubuntu 17.10, and next Ubuntu 18.04.

1. Open terminal via Ctrl+Alt+T or by searching it from app launcher. When it opens, run command to add the PPA:

Input your password (no visual feedback while typing) when it prompts and hit Enter.

2. If you have a previous release installed, just upgrade it via Software Updater.

Or run commands in terminal to install or upgrade to Supertuxkart 0.9.3:

You can launch Software & Updates utility and navigate to ‘Other Software’ tab to disable or remove the PPA.

Supertuxkart, open-source arcade racing game, got a big update by releasing 0.9.3 rc1 yesterday. Here’s how to install it in Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04 via PPA.

Supertuxkart 0.9.3, code name ‘Halloween Update’, includes following changes:

  • Android support! Get it from Google Play store, or download apk from its website.
  • Completely redesigned the old Mansion and made two brand new arenas
  • New tracks: Candela City, Las Dunas Stadium, Cornfield Crossing
  • Karts now have headlights that are automatically turned on during night time.
  • Built-in screen recorder.
  • HSV colorization for some scenery
  • various other bug-fixes and performance improvements.
